The concept for the Alchemist wax melter first took shape in Lisbon’s historic Baixa district, where the ghost of Fernando Pessoa still lingers in the cafés and bookshops he frequented.
Inspired by the poet’s extraordinary ability to fragment his identity into dozens of literary personas (his famous “heteronyms”), a perfumer sought to capture this metamorphic genius in wax form.
Drawing from Pessoa’s own alchemical blend of mysticism and modernity, the melter’s trio of oils mirrors his essence: cottonseed oil for the weightless melancholy of his verses (like those in The Book of Disquiet), peppermint oil for the sharp, restless intellect of his heteronyms, and myrrh oil for his clandestine love of the occult—tarot, astrology, and secret societies.
